Notes on LAB 8

COLOR


Activity 1: part 1.

Refer to lesson 6 for instructions on using the spectroscope. Be sure that you have the proper filters. Then cover the entrance slit with the filter and look at the spectrum of light that is passed by the filter.

Activity 1: part 2.

You can use two (or three) flashlights. Cover each with one of the primary filters. Shine the flashlights so that their beams overlap to see what colors you make by addition.

Activity 2:

Note that if the primary color filters (RGB) are truly primaries, then they would not pass any light when two of them are overlapped. However, if their pass bands overlap, some light may get through. In that case at least one of the filters is not a true primary filter.
